2nd TPM of the U-Mar Project in Zadar, Croatia - September 2022

2nd TPM of the U-Mar Project in Zadar, Croatia - September 2022

On Friday September 23rd, the II Transnational Meeting of the “U-Mar – Enhancing underwater archeology to make it a innovative tool for development Sustainable & Creative Tourism”.” project was held in Zadar (Croatia), at the headquarters of ICUA – International Center for Underwater Archeology, partner of the project.

The experts discussed the ongoing activities, in particular the creation of an innovative training course for the enhancement and communication of underwater archaeological sites and the creation of an e-learning platform aimed at disseminating the training and project outputs.

ICUA Zadar representative Ivan Vidulić presented the draft course syllabus at the meeting organised in Zadar on 23 September 2022 with the co-leadership of The Phoenicians’ Route association. The draft syllabus is the fruit of many months of collecting, processing, and interpreting the contributions, with each of the lessons presented as a set of facts and theoretical knowledge, and as an example of best practices in the promotion of cultural heritage in the countries of the project partners. After a round of discussions and commentary on further steps it was decided that, upon the incorporation of acknowledged modifications, a completed model of a course on underwater archaeological sites for cultural operators would be submitted by year’s end and then presented at the next Transnational project meeting.

The next Transnational project meeting is scheduled in Cadiz (Spain) in January 2023.

The U-Mar project is focused on the development of knowledge and the appreciation of cultural heritage through underwater archaeology and the promotion and strengthening of the culture and tourism offer, which may grow in the coming years given the current relevance of the topic and the interest for this field. This project stimulates the creation of international strategic partnerships in matters for which there is a shared interest—the development of underwater archaeology—and thereby the intensification of joint activity at the transnational level.

Detailed information about the U-Mar project is available on the Internet site of The Phoenicians’ Route association.

The project, led by the Phoenicians’ Route – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
