U-Mar - Enhancing Underwater Archaeology as an Innovative Tool for Sustainable and Creative Tourism

ICUA Zadar successfully hosted an event on Friday, October 27th, presenting the project titled "U-Mar - Enhancing Underwater Archaeology as an Innovative Tool for Sustainable and Creative Tourism."

U-Mar is a two-year KA2 project funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, bringing together five Mediterranean countries, including Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, and Croatia. The aim of this project was to acquire new knowledge about underwater cultural heritage and to brand tourism related to underwater archaeology.

ICUA Zadar led the first phase of the project, resulting in the creation of an engaging course with the goal of empowering underwater archaeology. This course primarily targets cultural professionals, tourism operators, and archaeology students, contributing to the development of eco-conscious tourism associated with underwater cultural heritage.

The U-Mar project emerged from the commitment of partner institutions to uncover the mysteries of underwater archaeology through training a team of experts with knowledge and vision. The long-term goal of the project is to provide guidelines to institutions interested in developing a methodology for promoting underwater archaeological heritage with various application possibilities, depending on the context, with a particular emphasis on creating underwater archaeological routes.

Following the presentations, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions on this fascinating topic over a casual reception.
